Local families can learn how to put more play in their day at Healthy Kids Day, from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Midwest City YMCA, 2817 North Woodcrest Dr. The event is part of the Y's nationwide effort to encourage kids and families to become more physically active and participate in activities that foster healthy living.

Healthy Kids Day events will provide local resources to educate adults about making healthy choices for their families on an ongoing basis. Activities will include health and safety-related vendors, games, arts and crafts, inflatable recreational play equipment, face painting and demonstrations. All activities are free and open to the public.

"Keeping kids healthy is at the core of the Y," Angela Jones, health and wellness director for the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City, said. "Getting kids to move more through activities that are fun and making consistently healthier food and beverage choices are the keys. Healthy Kids Day provides both kids and parents with the opportunity to get moving, play and just have fun."

This year, the Y is also offering the Healthy Family Home starter kit, a great tool to inspire and educate families to make a health commitment together. The kit provides families with tips on how to create a healthy home. Families can pick up the starter kit at Healthy Kids Day or visit www. healthyfamilyhome.org for more information.

"Families that connect by eating meals together and dedicate quality time with each other raise kids who are positive and have healthier relationships," Jones said. "The Y strives to get more families into that routine through Healthy Kids Day events."
