Team June, a group of 14- and 15-year-old basketball players participating in Mid-America Youth Basketball, has been making a big splash this summer under Midwest City coaches Lenny Bert and Mark Clanton.

Team June, a squad sponsored by NFL linebacker Cato June, really opened some eyes June 27 in the Hardwood Classic in Tulsa. The hoopsters played up in the 17- to 18-year-old level and won the tournament, going undefeated at 6-0.

Bert, a longtime Bomber assistant, will begin coaching at Putnam West this August.

OVER THE TOP
In a 54-51 victory over Top City out of Kansas City, 5-6 Torrey Noel, from Crutcho Middle School, tallied the final four points to boost Team June to the win. Team June has been the champion or runner-up in every tournament in which it has competed this summer.

Forty-four teams from Nebraska, Louisiana, Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado and Missouri competed in the Hardwood Classic.

It also won the Sooner Cager Classics in Oklahoma City on May 2 and went 5-1 in the Houston Prep Showcase on May 16.

Team June continued to roll in OKC School's Out Shootout (3-0) and the AAU Super Regional in Dallas (5-1). June will next compete July 16-18 in the Summer Heat in Oklahoma City.
