At the 2010 Oklahoma Technology Association Conference held Feb. 8-9 in Downtown Oklahoma City the Mid-Del School District was named Technology District of the Year.
The district was recognized for its ongoing efforts to bring technology into the district's classrooms and ongoing technology upgrades to prepare students for the digital world. The district was chosen from a pool of school districts statewide.
Upgrades have included interactive whiteboards, digital projectors and document cameras in classrooms. In all of the district's library media centers, computer stations are dedicated to teacher and student multimedia production and every classroom has a wireless access point that can accommodate up to 30 computers.
Podcasts are also becoming part of the curriculum. In 2006, the district started Pod Squad to provide professional development and equipment for teachers to create those podcasts. Teachers in the district are also able to check out iPod carts for classroom use.
SOCIAL MEDIA Social media is also becoming a big part of the lives of students and teachers. Special sites have been created for library media specialists, teachers new to the district, computer-science classes, journalism classes, and teachers interested in technology.
The online learning is enhanced with student access to e-mail. The district has more than 1,200 e-mail accounts for students to use to supplement their learning experiences and provides features like help with completing college applications online.
An online learning management system, MOODLE, is in use for the second year for teachers to share resources. It was made possible by a grant the district received to improve best practices and for implementation of MOODLE in the district.
