As of May 4, the Tinker and Liberator gates are closed at Tinker Air Force Base. The Turnbull gate off SE 29th Street as well as the Vance Gate off Sooner Rd. are open.
The Turnbull Gate will be open Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Vance Gate will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. Drivers heading west on Interstate 40 need to take Exit 157A to SE 29th Street and proceed west to A Ave. to access the Turnbull Gate.
Drivers heading east on Interstate 40 should take the Eaker Gate exit to enter the base.
Officials also said to alleviate traffic on Douglas Blvd. from the Liberator Gate closure, the Hruskocy Gate, which exits off Interstate 40, will be modified to allow three lanes of incoming traffic.
The Tinker Gate, which exits onto Air Depot Boulevard, is scheduled to be closed until Jan. 14, 2011, while the Liberator Gate, off Douglas Boulevard, is scheduled to be closed until June 10.
A new visitor's center will be included in the remodeled Tinker Gate. It will replace the current visitor's center at the Eaker Gate.
As the gate is remodeled, drivers will need to use the Eaker Gate or the Vance Gate off Sooner Rd to access the commissary, the base exchange, the Tinker Club or the golf course.
There will be access to the air park from inside the base, but during construction, the air park will be closed to the general public.
The Liberator Gate closure, which provides access from Douglas Boulevard, will affect employees who work in the industrial buildings in the southeast portion of the installation, including Bldg. 3001.
The Midwest Boulevard Gate, located on S. Midwest Blvd. north of SE 74th Street, will provide Liberator drivers an alternate route for getting on base between 5:15 and 8 a.m.
